Eastern Shore of Virginia Habitat for Humanity
FALL 2023 EQUIPMENT GRANT: Jobsite Equipment Trailer, Generator, and Tools
Grant Amount: $35,000
Reach: Volunteer construction crews and the families served through expanded homebuilding capacity
Project: ESVCF funding supported the purchase and outfitting of a tandem-axle, all-weather jobsite trailer equipped with essential tools, storage, workspaces, and safety equipment. This investment was central to Habitat’s strategic plan to increase annual home construction from an average of 1.5 homes per year to 4 homes per year by 2025.
Impact: The new trailer was ordered, equipped with tool storage cabinets, volunteer check-in space, and a workbench, and has been stocked with tools. Interior lighting and charging stations were the final additions before being moved to a new construction site in Fall 2024. With build sites now planned across both counties (and often far apart), the trailer ensures that multiple crews can work simultaneously, safely, and efficiently. This increased capacity accelerates homebuilding and directly supports more Eastern Shore families on their path to safe, affordable housing.
Why It Matters: Demand for affordable housing continues to rise on the Eastern Shore. By strengthening Habitat’s operational capacity, this grant helps the organization build more homes, meet urgent local housing needs, and empower families to achieve long-term stability and self-reliance.
