ESVA Housing Mission Inc.
SPRING 2025 GRANT: Construction Trailers to Support Critical Home Repairs
Grant Amount: $33,000
Reach: Low-income homeowners in Accomack and Northampton Counties; volunteer teams supporting repair projects
Project: ESVCF funding enabled the purchase and equipping of two construction trailers to support ESVA Housing Mission’s volunteer-led home repair efforts. The trailers provide essential storage and transport for tools and materials used to complete repairs that focus on fall prevention, safe entry and exit, and creating warmer, safer, and drier homes for individuals living below the poverty level.
Impact: With a new trailer in service, volunteers can now work more efficiently and safely. The upgraded trailer nearly doubled the storage space previously available through borrowed equipment, helping teams stay organized and focused on serving clients. In the first half of 2025, ESVA Housing Mission completed 12 critical repair projects, with another 12 households awaiting assistance. Volunteer teams of 12–16 people continue to be central to this work, supported by staff who coordinate and supervise each project.
Why It Matters: Falls are a leading cause of injury and death among older adults, and unsafe stairs, railings, and entryways put many Eastern Shore residents at risk. By strengthening the infrastructure behind this hands-on repair program, the grant directly improves safety, independence, and quality of life for some of the region’s most vulnerable residents. Reliable equipment allows volunteers to meet growing demand and ensure that more neighbors receive the repairs they desperately need.
