Eastern Shore Area Agency/Community Action Agency
SPRING 2025 INFRASTRUCTURE GRANT: Comfort, Capacity, and Connection Grant Amount: $25,000
Reach: Older adults, Head Start children, and families served across Virginia's Eastern Shore through aging and community action programs
Project: ESVCF funding supported two critical infrastructure investments at the Eastern Shore Area Agency/Community Action Agency: the installation of new HVAC systems at the Hallwood facility (a shared service hub for older adults and Head Start participants) and a matching grant to purchase a senior transportation van to expand access to meals, healthcare, and community activities.
Impact: The upgraded HVAC system has transformed the Hallwood Center into a year-round comfortable and healthy environment for seniors, young children, and staff who rely on the facility for essential services. Meanwhile, the new transportation van is now woven into daily operations, ensuring that older adults who can no longer drive can still attend congregate meal programs, medical appointments, and wellness activities that support their independence. Together, these investments strengthen ESAAA/CAA's ability to serve as a true community hub on the Eastern Shore.
Why It Matters: For many older adults on the Eastern Shore, losing the ability to drive can mean losing access to a hot meal, a doctor's visit, or a friendly face. And for families with young children relying on the Hallwood Center's Head Start programs, a broken heating or cooling system is more than an inconvenience — it's a barrier to care. This grant removed two quiet but significant obstacles to community well-being, allowing ESAAA/CAA to keep doing what it does best: helping people of all ages stay healthy, connected, and independent.
ESAAA/CAA Shuttle Buses are essential for older adults without reliable transportation.
