FALL 2023 PROGRAM GRANT: Hands-On Science Learning for Teachers and Students

Reach: Local high school teachers and participating high school students
Project: Delivered a coastal ecology professional development workshop for teachers and offered components of the Future Marine Scientist Academy for students.
Impact: Teachers gained field-based experience in water quality testing and marine sampling, returning to classrooms with new skills and science materials. Although student enrollment was lower than hoped, those who participated experienced meaningful, immersive ornithology and field identification lessons.
Why It Matters: Strengthening science education benefits entire school communities. This grant built capacity for hands-on, inquiry-based learning and offered valuable insights that will shape future programming for both teachers and students.
