Welcome to The Eastern Shore of Virginia Community Foundation Web Site

Formed in 2005 to serve the counties of Accomack and Northampton, the Eastern Shore of Virginia Community Foundation is the 27th community foundation in Virginia and one of more than 700 serving specific geographic regions of the United States. Its mission is to make grants that transform the quality of life and inspire philanthropy on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The Foundation is a collective enterprise of many people whose vision, leadership and philanthropy work to strengthen Eastern Shore nonprofit organizations and the community. The Eastern Shore of Virginia Community Foundation is a local, nonprofit organization which, through affiliation with The Norfolk Foundation, creates and provides philanthropic resources to meet a broad range of needs. The Foundation has six key grantmaking areas: Family, Child and Social Welfare; Public and Civic Life; Arts and Culture; Education; Health; and the Environment.

Our Challenge

The Norfolk Foundation has issued a challenge to the new Eastern Shore of Virginia Community Foundation (ESVCF). If the foundation raises $4 million in new funds by January 2009, the Norfolk Foundation will provide an additional $2 million for an unrestricted grantmaking fund dedicated to the Eastern Shore. The Norfolk Foundation challenge extends to ESVCF a wonderful opportunity to achieve economic viability within a relatively short time period.

To raise $4 million in three years is a very significant undertaking, and broad community support will be essential for the goal to be reached.
